The included cable set connects both battery systems. A special battery computer monitors and controls the system. This is connected to the battery management system (BMS) of the lithium battery and prevents the existing charging systems from continuing to charge the lithium battery when it is already full. The battery computer also displays the total available capacity of the entire battery system in the passenger compartment.

The advantages of the PowerUnit lithium battery

A major advantage of the PowerUnit is that all existing charging equipment in your vehicle can continue to be used. The on-board battery remains installed as a backup battery and is used when the lithium battery is almost completely discharged or has been switched off by the battery computer for other reasons. The PowerUnit also offers an additional function: if you are not using your vehicle as a touring vehicle, you can set this on the battery computer. This keeps the lithium battery in the optimum partial state of charge, which significantly increases the service life of the battery.

Useful tip for longer charging times

The PowerUnit lithium battery offers a considerably higher capacity than conventional battery systems. This can lead to longer charging times. To counteract this, we recommend the use of an additional charger. The compact chargers (page 524) with 25 A or 50 A are particularly suitable. With an additional charger, you can compensate for the longer charging times and ensure that your PowerUnit is always ready for use.
